Clean Green Challenge FAQs

Who can apply?
Anyone working on a sustainability innovation — startups, researchers, students, or professionals.
Is there a fee to apply or pitch?
No, the application and event are completely free.
Do I need to have a finished product?
No, applicants can be at any stage — concept, prototype, pilot, or deployment — as long as there’s IP in place.
What if I’m not selected for the virtual event?
You may still be considered for future opportunities at UMass Lowell’s Innovation Hub and can apply to the next preliminary round.
Can I pitch if I already have funding?
Yes, whether you're pre-seed or have closed rounds, you're welcome to apply. Be transparent about your raise and valuation.
Will pitching publicly affect my intellectual property?
Only pitch what is protected and safe to be shared publicly. Do not include confidential or proprietary information.
How does this connect to the final event in April 2026?
Virtual event winners and standout applicants will be prioritized for review in the finalist pool for the April in-person Clean Green Challenge.
Can I apply with more than one project?

Yes, but each project must have its own separate application.
